I created my first Colourblock artwork in order to move away from the constraints of the wheel, and create a form that changed in appearance as the viewer moves around it, much as landscape changes as the viewer moves through it. I found the dynamics of this piece exhilarating and immediately saw the potential for a multi-form group piece.

Colourblocks is a 16-part wall installation. Individual forms are divided into sections using a laser level and each area is painted with underglaze colour. This vertical demarcation is more incongruous with the shape than my horizontally-banded forms and affects the perception of form in a different way. Linear connections can be made between each form and the appearance of the artwork changes significantly as the viewer changes position, asserting the viewer as the key protagonist in the appearance of the piece.

Each form is attached to the board by a magnet, enabling the positions of each to be changed and new compositions found. Images of the artwork show the same 16 bowls, arranged differently, to different effect.
