This collection was inspired by the notion of equiluminance by Margaret Livingstone, in her book The Biology of Seeing. She suggests that any 2 colours of equal tone, or equal light, when positioned side by side, fight for the same picture plane, constantly moving forward and backwards in space; as the first advances on the second, then the second on the first, and so on. For me, this movement resonates with the visual oscillation associated with complimentary colours. Therefore, in Equilume, I selected 2 complimentary colours of the same tone, in an attempt to maximise the effect.
